Detox for Beginners

drinking waterOne of the easiest things you can do to assist your body in the detox process is to drink a large glass of water immediately upon rising in the morning.  It is important to drink the best quality water available. I do not have the definitive answer about which water is best, as I have read about reverse osmosis, alkaline, various filters, spring water, etc.  One simple idea that might be the most effective and economical is treating your own water with lemon or wheat grass.

So, begin to make it a habit.  Every morning make it easy for yourself to access a large glass of water and drink it down – and then wait at least 20 minutes before eating anything!

Water and food.  This is a simple practice which most people are completely unaware of. It becomes critically important for anyone who struggles with chronic heartburn and takes antacids.  Try this practice for three weeks and see if you notice any difference.  Of course, the quality and quantity of food you ingest will also play a significant role, but this is something easy to start experimenting with.  You are a scientist and your body and your intake are your testing ground.

As we get older we need to facilitate our digestion and nutrient absorption in every way possible.  One important way to do this is to avoid drinking with meals.  Drink water 20 minutes before a meal and wait at least 20 minutes after your meal to quench any thirst you might have.

I realize this is quite counter cultural.  In restaurants the first thing they take is your drinks order.  When you are invited to a meal at a friend’s house, everyone shares drinks before the meal.  Every time I ask for nothing I receive at least two more questions and some strange looks: ‘you’re not going to have anything?’  Now in restaurants it is probably also about the size of the bill and the anticipated tip.  Every waitron knows that the drinks portion of the bill can push the total much higher and they look forward to a correspondingly higher tip!  For me it’s not about the money, it’s about how to facilitate my digestion and get the most out of my food.  My aim is to live vibrantly throughout my whole life!  I do not take for granted my current health, but seek to daily invest in my future health!

So sometimes I will ask for a glass of water and enjoy the pre-dinner conversation while my glass remains full!

Detox or Not?

Great Ways to Detoxify

Diets Don’t Work

apple in waterMost of us have come to the realization that diets and self-deprivation don’t work, therefore it is important to create a relationship with food that is nourishing and pleasurable!

Experts estimate that 75% of overeating is caused by emotions!

However, not all overweight people are necessarily overeating right now.  Many have developed yo-yo dieting patterns and even when they strictly control their intake, their body refuses to let go of the fat they are desperate to lose.

Most times we have no idea about the emotions behind our eating choices.

Stress is another significant factor that can sabotage your best attempts in pursuing healthy eating habits and other healthy disciplines.

Personalized Coaching can help you explore the many facets that keep you stuck in a place you recognize as unhealthy.  Exploring factors that limit us can be a frustrating and sometimes scary journey.  As a Coach, I can work with you as you make discoveries that can dramatically change your relationship to your emotions, stress and food.

As a Coach, I do not hold my own idea of success or hold one particular ‘formula’ for healthy eating and then hold you accountable for following it.  A Coach does not beat you up when you are not making the kind of progress they want you to make.  A Coach listens to the desires of your heart for freedom, health and joy and holds those values for you.  A Coach believes in your ability to achieve the desires of your heart and walks along with you, which allows you to get there much faster and with great confidence.

I have found using the Emotional Freedom Technique as a tool allows clients to quickly navigate their health journey because they can: discover and clear negative emotions that have been sabotaging their attempts at success; identify awareness of their personal stress response and its impact on their body; and target the physical cravings as well as the emotional impulse to eat.

If you would like to schedule your free 30 minute inquiry call, we can discuss how hiring a Life Coach can help you take steps on your personal journey.

You have the capacity to make incredible progress and I am excited about the possibility of working with you!

An Answer for the Vaccine Question

kids shoesA friend asked, and I thought you all might also like the answer.

I was talking to my older brother, who is a strong Christian and father of three children, about vaccines and he said that there could be a very small risk of vaccine damage, but most children are fine, so it is probably a good idea to just go along with the government recommendations.

What would you have said to him?

I would say:

Based on the research of Dr Andrew Moulden, and many others, there is damage to every single receiver of a vaccine – it just isn’t always immediately apparent. Every vaccine initiates a stroke-like response in the brain of the one receiving it. Moulden described it as mass ischemia. Some of us see no evidence and experience no immediate problem. The damage may show up later in auto-immune challenges, diabetes, other health challenges, Alzheimer’s or Dimentia. The injury may result in slight brain damage – I know I want all my brain cells to work at their highest level. I have read that some research indicates that children receiving vaccines have IQs 5-10 points lower than those not receiving them. Teens and adults getting vaccines have also reported serious brain fogginess, memory loss, and some times much more severe reactions.

The combined impact of getting all the vaccines recommended has NEVER been scientifically tested. So, again, all the above mentioned health challenges showing up later in life can be connected to the combined vaccinations. We have a lot of toxic exposure in our industrialized world and it makes sense to limit unnecessary exposure of toxins in the vaccines, such as mercury, aluminum, formaldehyde, and more.

I also don’t believe the science supports the effectiveness of vaccines, i.e.. I don’t believe vaccines do what they are proclaimed to do. Most cases today of measles and WC, for instance, occur in those who have received vaccines. They are now seeing cases of NPFP (Non Polio Flacid Paralysis) in kids in California (I think it is up to about 30, there are also thousands of cases in India after the recent polio vaccination drive there). NPFP is just like polio, but because the kids were vaccinated they don’t want to call it polio, or maybe they don’t actually have the same blood results – but the physical paralysis is the same. Polio outbreaks have always been associated with pesticides, When DDT use was banned the polio rates went down. Yes, there is a polio virus. But it has always been around and can still be found. Polio only causes problems when connected to the toxic ingredients in pesticides and herbicides. In fact, the mercury, aluminum and other toxic ingredients in vaccines may be making kids MORE susceptible to the very illnesses they are supposed to resolve.

And finally, as a Christian I believe God created our body with what we need. Yes, there is sin and sickness, but I don’t think God left us at the mercy of ‘vaccinologists’ for our ‘cure.’ When I first learned about the powerful immunological protection offered by breastfeeding it led me to question the practice of injecting exclusively breastfed babies in such an unnatural means – via a needle into the muscle to end up in the blood stream – with a cocktail of serious ingredients many of which are toxic. I do not have enough faith in human men who stand to profit from my choice to give me confidence in this practice. I am not alone.  Our immune system is incredible and new information is coming to light which makes many question traditional vaccine ‘science.’

Since when has God called us to be like the majority? I did a little too much of following the majority during my teens. That has led me to question EVERYTHING! I thank Jesus for saving me from the majority life!

Of course, I would never say all of that in response to one question! But f I had the opportunity and my audience was open to listening, I would GENTLY try to share along these lines.  Because people need to know.  They need to think and thoroughly research before they submit their precious children to this dangerous medical practice.

Confessions of an Imperfect Parent

Let's be friends

I have a vivid memory of an intense serious discussion my husband and I had with our oldest son when he was 20.  He was at a stage of life where he didn’t really know what his future held or what he should be pursuing.  He was not feeling confident.

I don’t remember the entire conversation, it lasted a long time and there was a lot of raw sharing and tears all around.

There were some things he raised about his childhood that caused him pain in remembering.  There was the realization that we had not done a perfect job in raising this son.  We had made mistakes.  Some of our mistakes had left scars in his heart that he was still struggling with.  It was not an easy conversation.  Acknowledging our parenting mistakes was hard, but it was even harder trying to figure out ‘what do we do now?’  How can we help this son heal from the pain we inadvertently caused him?  How can we help him through this state of insecurity and move with confidence to the future God has for him?

Most of the discussion was between my husband and son and I distinctly remember having the thought “I’m like the Counselor in this situation, but I HAVE NO IDEA what is needed or what would be helpful for them right now.”  I usually think I have all the answers to most relational issues!! But I was completely stumped and remember telling them so.

I think we all prayed together, apologized and agreed that we did not know the way forward.

As parents of young children we do our very best to meet their needs and balance life.  But it is quite a learning curve and we can’t always predict exactly how our decisions will impact the heart of our child.  Hearing about some scars on my son’s heart based on the life choices we had made was very hard, but allowing him the space to speak about it was an important step towards his healing and growing.

He went on to find a field of study he really enjoyed.  He moved a continent away and got a lot of great work experience – some of it through some pretty difficult situations.  He dug in, faced the difficulties and grew.  God brought him an amazing woman to be his wife.  He started his own business and has seen it grow as he contracts many men older than himself to work for him.

So what is my point?  As parents we will make mistakes!  It is a given.  However, we can have confidence that God’s grace can bring blessing despite our mistakes.  Coming to grips with our mistakes is a process.  We can start by confessing to our children when we know we have made a mistake.  We can listen when they want to explain their view on their life – listen and not try to defend ourselves.  We can pray and seek wisdom and grace to build, grow and repair once we have become aware of pain we might have inadvertently caused our children.  We need to fully receive the forgiveness offered in Jesus Christ and not beat ourselves up for our mistakes. All of it is worth it.  Building a long lasting friendship with our adult children is one of the most worthwhile things we can do!

What have your learned about forgiving yourself on your parenting journey?

Shopping in the USA

I feel vulnerable at the very core of my existence in the USA. Spending 30 years living in a foreign country and coming back has given me a different perspective than the average person.

I see an older couple shopping at Kroger.  They look sweet, loving, normal.  They put two huge boxes of Diet Coke into their shopping cart and take them to their car.  I want so badly to ask them if they’ve ever heard of the dangers of aspartame.  They are not energetic looking, but they also aren’t sickly – not riding in the wheelchair carts like so many I see.  They just look like people who grow older and think that life is all about aches, pains, medication and doing the best you can because we all know growing old brings health challenges.  I don’t know if the Diet Coke is for them or maybe for someone else, who knows?  Maybe they are trying to bless someone else.

They trust the FDA, Kroger and the US “system” to keep them safe and healthy.  They don’t know that their trust has been violated.

I just walk past rows and rows of food.  I don’t stop.  I already know that nearly 100% of it contains ingredients that have been proven to be harmful.  Hydrogenated fats, colorings, flavorings, aspartame, HFCS, and on and on.  It does not promote or sustain life in any way.  It is all marketing ploys to get the unsuspecting public to purchase their products.  I walk down an aisle containing incalculable varieties of products sold to help us keep our clothes clean and fresh.  It is a maze trying to decipher.  Are all these claims real?  Is there any negative impact on the environment from any of the products? What are these things doing to my skin?  Our water supplies?  Does it matter?  Is it all about the cheapest one to do the job, or is the traditional brand, or the one most advertised better?  I’m overwhelmed by just one product decision.

People are oblivious.  They know what they like. They know what their momma used. They know what tastes good.  After all, taste is the supreme indicator for goodness.  Once the bagger at the grocery store asked me if organic bananas tasted better than the others.  As if I am choosing them all because of taste!

What do I do with this great burden I carry?  The burden of living healthy.  The burden of the knowledge of what people are doing to their bodies – yet most are oblivious.

Not all big business is bad.  But big business is in the business of making a profit – for their shareholders.  Along the way something has gone very wrong.  I don’t know how to fix it.  What do I, one individual, have power to accomplish in the face of this onslaught by big business that impacts me at the core of my existence?

I can….

  • Choose to buy organic and local only (or as much as possible – but I can raise the bar higher than is comfortable).
  • Choose to cook healthy food in my kitchen with the organic ingredients I buy.
  • Help others understand whenever I have the smallest opportunity.
  • I can learn the facts so that I can share the cold hard facts and not just vague feelings.
  • Lean hard into Jesus when I feel overcome with fear or anxiety.
  • Meditate on God’s word.
  • Use the passion for health I have been given as a gift to share in a winsome way.

Am I crazy?  Am I delusional?  Is it all safe and I’m just over-reacting?

Or am I on the right track, but missing other important things I can do?  What else can one person do to buck the system, live with health amongst so much plenty?

What thoughts and feelings impact you during your regular grocery store expeditions?

16 Vaccine Objections

needleHere are some of the basic reasons I have chosen to reject the popularly recommended concept of injecting myself and my loved ones with vaccines. This is not full of scientific links and support.  It is just my reasons and my conclusions.  Each parent and each medical professional has to make their own conclusions and live with their own conscience.

1.  No liability.  No doctor, no drug company, no government agency is liable for any damages incurred if the injection causes any damage.

2.  Vaccine Damage is a reality. The fact that compensation of nearly $4B has been paid out for victims in the USA alone, proves that damage is a reality, but is a hard and long battle to receive anything back.  Only 25% of claims filed have been paid.  Many more claims have not even been filed.

Media response3.  Combined Impact.  No studies have ever been done on the impact of combined vaccines EVER.  So young babies are routinely scheduled to get multiple injections at one visit and all the professionals assume it is safe.  That is not science. http://www.jpands.org/vol21no2/miller.pdf

4.  Given too young.  The blood brain barrier is not fully developed until around the age of 2, yet we are told we need to inject highly toxic substances into babies in the first days and months of life.  It just doesn’t sit right with me.  The toxic ingredients impact the brain. Not all kids get autism, but what are we doing to our children? When vaccines were first introduced they would never give them to babies or pregnant women.  Now they are recommended.  Did anyone ever do some studies to support such a drastic policy change?

Recomended Vaccines 83-20155.  Too many vaccines.  The recommended schedule has ballooned over the years – especially since liability was removed.  Isn’t that interesting?  Many parents today received vaccines so they think it is safe to give vaccines, but babies today will receive nearly three times as many injections as their parents!

6.  Safety studies often do not compare new vaccine products to placebo but against old vaccines or aluminum adjuncts. As a minimal there should be placebo controlled safety trials!

7.  Conflicts of interest among those who set the schedules, make recommendations and gain financially.

8.  Control of medical education and media by major pharmaceutical interests results in Intense Propaganda.

9.  If vaccines were good and beneficial there would be no need to force, pressure or coerce parents.

10.  Effectiveness. Vaccines have not been proven to be effective in providing protection.

11.  Use of aborted fetal cells as a foundation for some vaccines.

12.  Use of monkey kidneys cells and other foreign proteins as a foundation for some vaccines and the lack of study on the impact such foreign proteins can have on the undeveloped immune system.

13.  Use of GMO ingredients in the manufacture of vaccines – with completely unknown results on the body.

14.  New understanding of the immune system, molecular biology and the human genome which should cause every scientist to re-think the foundation of vaccine science.

15.  Chronic illness and general health of our population.  Vaccines are not the only reason, but since our health care costs are among the highest in the world and since our vaccination rate is among the highest in the world, wouldn’t you expect that health rates for both children and adults should be among the highest in the world?

16.  Health does not come through a needle, but through adequate diet and a strong immune system.

I think I could go on an on. About known toxic chemicals added to vaccines such as aluminum which have a detrimental impact on the developing brain and Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) states it is not safe in any MINIMUM amount; formaldehyde that is added to most vaccines is also used for preserving tissue samples and embalming dead bodies, yet it has never been tested for injection into a live human, causes deranged DNA and  cancers; MSG, a flavor enhancer, is a known neurological excitotoxin which causes brain cells to continuously fire until cell death; Polysorbate 80 (Tween 80) which is known to cause sterility, open the blood brain barrier, and prevents the body from detoxing.

Vaccines seem like a great idea.  Just have this little prick and you will avoid being sick! That is the hope they offer to fearful parents.  But I don’t think they deliver on their promises.  You might have formed different opinions.  These are sixteen of the reasons that forced me to spend hours exploring the topic and looking for answers.  The answers I found did not satisfy me that vaccines were a safe or effective option.

I’m not a doctor, I’m just a mom and a grandmother dedicated to the health of my family. My heart aches for those who have suffered vaccine damage and I want to help others find true health. I’ve spent over thirty years researching this topic and these big points just keep standing out for me.

If you tell me it’s not fair if my unvaccinated child gets a disease that harms someone else, I’ll tell you that it is not my responsibility to do anything other than keep my children healthy. If they get sick, I’ll keep them home and they’ll be better in no time because we are building a strong innate immune system. If vaccines worked you’d have no reason to fear.  In my opinion, herd immunity is a myth.  I have no obligation to expose my child to harm for a supposed (but unproven) slight benefit to others.

Have you got any additional reasons to add to this list?

Snack Attack

HoneyOk, I admit I sometimes get those cravings for something rich, sweet and gooey.  We have a family recipe for chocolate chip cookies with oats that are legendary. Breaking that habit is hard.

Trying to go gluten zero is not easy.  Gluten free and sugar-free is taking it to another level.  I haven’t even begun to go dairy free, although I do choose raw organic milk in small quantities!

Making wise food choices sometimes seems like a battle.  So, here is something I tried that I think might become a new go-to food!

  • ½ Tablespoon peanut butter
  • ½ Tablespoon coconut oil
  • ¼ Tablespoon local organic honey
  • A sprinkle of cacao nibs

Mix together and savor!  Enjoy it with a cup of your best hot healthy beverage, or just a cup of tea!

I try to use mostly natural organic ingredients.  I like my peanut butter freshly ground from organic peanuts. If you can’t eat peanuts, other nut butters would work.

Double the batch if you want to share.  Or encourage your kids to make their own delicious, healthy, natural treat.  A little goes a long way to fight those cravings!

What are your favorite ways to fight the sugar cravings?

What to say when pressured to get the flu shot

HappyA text message conversation prompted me to think of more answers to the question “Why didn’t you get a flu shot?”

My mom lives in a retirement community that offers annual flu shots. They have someone come out every year to administer them for the convenience of the residents. I made sure my mom was fully informed as to WHY she did NOT want to get one, but then she was worried about what she was going to say!

My Mom’s message:
Hi!! O.K.– so yesterday I didn’t show up where they were giving flu shots. Now — what am I supposed to say when I run into a person of authority and he asks me ‘why’! ‘My daughter told me not to’ sounds pretty weak!! Love you!! Mom

My response:
We’ll done! I’m soooooooo proud of you!! I’ll send you some links with info.

Other possible answers: “Someone who loves me a lot has researched it extensively and told me there is too much mercury in the shot. They don’t want me to suffer from mercury poisoning. “

Or, “Many people have acquired GBS (Guillain-Barre syndrome) from the flu shot which is extremely debilitating.”

Or, “I’m going to stay healthy this winter with Vitamin D3.”

Or, “Flu shots make me sick.”

Or, “If I got a flu shot my daughter might have a nervous breakdown!”

And you could add, “But if I get sick, I will send for my daughter and quarantine myself!”

You could also say, “Have you read what is in those shots?”

“Have you read the contraindications?”

“I don’t think my husband would want me to get this one!” (My mom is a widow. My dad was an MD)

There are many approaches to take.  I like to follow the Biblical patterns of communication and figure out how I can apply them in my life. I confess I don’t always get it right, but here are two principles:

  1. “a soft answer turns away wrath”
  2. Questions, when asked politely, usually give you the upper hand.

Here are more examples of strong questions in response to the question “Why don’t you get flu shots?” or when you are experiencing pressure to agree to a flu shot:

“What do you know about the contra-indications – that is, the people who shouldn’t get flu shots”?

“Did you know you can find the vaccine package insert from the FDA for every shot? The vaccine package insert is provided by the manufacturers lists all the ingredients, the contraindications, and the side effects. It also states that some categories of people should not get flu shots. Have you read it?”

“Do you know how effective the flu shot is expected to be for this flu season? Some years it’s been as low as 15% accurate.”

“Do you know what they make flu shots from? Did you know they’ve been experimenting with growing the flu virus in different mediums? Do you know the other ingredients in a flu shot, like mercury which is in the multi dose vials?”

“Do you know what mercury does to your brain and why the FDA limits the amount in ingestible foods to well below the amount they want to put into a person’s body with a needle?”

“Did you know that some vaccines (not flu shots) are developed using aborted human fetal tissue?”

When you think about it, most people who think the flu shot is a good idea really believe that it is good. They have been influenced by the vast amount of money spent on marketing by those who would benefit from flu shot sales. They haven’t been exposed to the research and facts that show the flu shot is overrated and possibly very dangerous. Most doctors are “educated” by the drug reps who want to sell more drugs, or by the CDC who has a dodgy record regarding accurately communicating vaccine safety studies (see #CDCwhistleblower).

You can read what I shared with my mother here. It was prompted by our text conversation.

How about you, what is your best response to those who try to influence you to get a flu shot?

Information on the flu shot for my mother

(and others like her)

Image - Version 2

My mom is 79 years young.  She was married to my dad, a medical virologist, for 45 years before his death in 2003.  She made a bold decision to skip the flu vaccine this year but wanted some information to help her explain her decision to those who are encouraging everyone to get a flu shot.

Dear Mom,  I care a lot about you.  I want you to enjoy good health for as long as you live.  I wish we could live closer so that we could spend more time together.  I would love to stop over every week for a regular date.

Since that is not our current reality, I thought I would share some really important information on the flu shot.  If I were closer I would be able to give this information bit by bit.  But I’ve been collecting credible sources of information on the flu and flu shot and want to share some of the best.  It’s hard to say how many hours of research I have done, but I feel like I am getting close to having at least a Bachelor’s Degree in vaccine information!

Firstly, Something VERY IMPORTANT: Compensation for Vaccine Injury

Something really important to consider in this whole debate is that if you do get a flu shot (or any vaccine), the manufacturer is not liable to pay for any damages or injury it might cause.  If you get GBS and are paralyzed (nurses and doctors see this condition frequently in emergency rooms and one of the first questions they ask is, have you recently got a flu shot?) or if you need extensive medical treatment for any injury, there is no recourse with the pharmaceutical company.  There is a process where you can make a claim to the government Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (VICP), but only about 2% of all injuries are reported and only about 25% of all claims considered receive any compensation. There has been $2.6 Billion (update as of 11/2018 $4 Billion) paid out to 3000 claimants since this system began, and a large percentage of the claims have been paid out for flu vaccine injury.

Video 1:  “You need to become vaccine educated.”  Barbara Loe Fisher

This video is a great place to start.  It is a 20 minute explanation by Barbara Loe Fisher.  [She is introduced by Dr Mercola whom you might not like, but keep watching because after his introduction, he doesn’t say anything else.] She started the NVIC (National Vaccine Information Center) almost 30 years ago after her son was injured by vaccines.  She is a very calm rational voice and in this video she explains the current flu shot options (in 2013 there are 12 different flu vaccines made by 7 companies), how to find out what is in each one, and what the contraindications for each one are.  She recommends that if you are thinking about getting a flu shot, the very least you should do is get the information sheet on it and read it thoroughly in advance.

Video 2: Think Twice

This is a short video (<9 minutes) with many facts and figures on the flu, how the flu vaccine is made, all the ingredients, some possible reactions to the flu vaccine, the effectiveness of the flu vaccine in all age groups, and other ways to protect against the flu.

Video 3: Dr John Bergman, Chiropractor in California

Dr Bergman has very strong views and has a hard time not being passionate about his views.  I can relate completely!  So, this is a warning, don’t watch the next video unless you are ready to hear someone who has a very strong negative opinion about the flu shot! He claims 0% effectiveness in elderly.  He lists some of the suspect ingredients in many flu shots – like aborted human fetal tissue and other toxic substances and have been shown to cause cancer. I think most of the elderly people I know would not be too excited about that.

Video 4: Dr Sherri Tenpenny

I’ve saved the best for last!  In this calm video explanation, Dr Sherri Tenpenny uses a lot of statistics from the CDC itself.  She also describes what is the flu, what is the flu shot, what is in the flu vaccine, what the scientific research says regarding the effectiveness of the flu shot, and what can you do to treat and prevent the flu. This is a very worthwhile watch, it will take about 50 minutes.  So, fix a cup of tea, relax and listen.

If you don’t have time, bottom line, the flu shot doesn’t even significantly prevent flu!  “In the Cochrane study done in 2006 which was a review of 48 reports including more than 66,000 adults, “Vaccination of healthy adults only reduced risk of influenza by 6% and reduced the number of missed work days by less than one day (0.16) days. It did not change the number of people needing to go to hospital or take time off work.” Reference: “Vaccines for preventing influenza in healthy adults.” The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews. 1 (2006)

I’ll stop with that for now.  I think I will write another blog post that might give you some insight on “What to say when pressured to get the flu shot“.
